Business Coaching Transforms
Business coaching is, quite simply, how to maximise your opportunities in a business setting.
Dynamic Business Coaching can significantly enhance your ability to create a comfortable and progressive business life. This is because an understanding of the dynamics of the business and of colleague relationships frees you to relax and make clear decisions. You can sit back, assess what’s going on, and bring all your relevant talents to bear in any given situation.
Business coaching gives lasting insights into your own and others’ ways of being in the workplace. It helps you pick your way through political tangles and stay focused on your preferred outcome.
It can’t change your workplace (unless you own the company) but it can maximise your ability to extract whatever is available from your position and opportunity.
Your Business Coaching Thought Partner
I have a substantial and broad business background.
I have worked in the UK and the USA for large corporations such as IBM and for software start-ups. I have started my own companies in the publishing and IT marketing domains in the USA.
For me, business coaching is first and foremost about your personal characteristics such as gender, intelligence, ethnic background, and personality type. This is because the way you apply these qualities and are perceived in the workplace will determine your effectiveness with colleagues or clients and your acceptability for promotions or client engagements.
I write that with some reluctance because I would rather each person were judged on their merits, their knowledge and experience. However, that is the reality in only a tiny part of the workplace, probably restricted to academia or the research environments of high-tech organisations.
Everywhere else, how you are perceived by others, in the widest possible sense, is going to affect your level of business success. Business coaching can help you create the most positive perception for your environment.
Complicating Business Factors
Business coaching has to be tailored to the individual because every business environment is different. From the outset, to improve your chances you must make a clear-eyed assessment regarding two key factors of organisation type and gender.
- Do you prefer a corporate or entrepreneurial environment?
- Are you in a field that favours one gender over the other? If so, how much?
Gender issues are typically more of a challenge for women than for men but that is not always the case. Also, non-binary genders bring a set of challenges all of their own.
Intelligence and creativity can sometimes provide a smooth path of progress but can also be a daily source of unhappiness and frustration. Organisations have to recruit from the general population and so must be designed for the efficient use of average individuals. Anyone far adrift from the average along any plane is likely to find themselves regularly challenged. See: The Challenges of the Gifted.
